A passer-by helped police detain a man on Weymouth seafront.
Dorset Police was called at 6.03pm yesterday to a report of a ‘suspicious’ vehicle on The Esplanade in Weymouth.
Police officers attended the scene and located the vehicle.
A member of the public then assisted police in detaining a man, who the Echo understands was the driver of the vehicle.
A 37-year-old man from Portland was arrested on suspicion of obstructing an officer under stop and search powers and assault by beating of an emergency worker.
He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for Weymouth and Portland Police said: “A massive thank you to the members of public who assisted the officer until more officers arrived.”
