Having watched the recent excellent refurbishment of the King Statue, I was expecting to see some reworking of the words that are on the main plinth as it faces St Mary Street.

There are some words in the top right-hand corner which are fairly well defined but there appears to be so much more on the rest of the slab but the weather seems to have taken its toll.

I have tried to read the words but it’s not the easiest place to be with traffic snapping at your heels. I’ve also looked in several historical books all to no avail.

Can anyone help please?
