A man has been charged for alleged drink driving after a car hit a tree and overturned in a crash.

Old Sherborne Road at Revels Hill, between Buckland Newton and Cosmore, was blocked as a result of the collision yesterday evening.

Motorists were advised to find an alternative route while recovery was arranged and debris cleared.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 5.45pm on Wednesday to a report of a single vehicle collision on the Old Sherborne Road near to the Buckland Newton turning.

"The vehicle, a black Volkswagen golf, reportedly hit a tree and flipped onto its roof.

"There were no reported injuries. The road was closed to allow emergency services to deal with the incident. It reopened at approximately 8.15pm."

Police said a 21-year-old man from Dorchester has been charged with driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and is due to appear before Weymouth Magistrates court on Friday, August 23.
