A PILATES and fitness instructor from Wareham will be hosting a fundraiser to raise money and awareness of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

The annual 5k Fun Run will be hosted on the morning of Sunday 28th September at the Birchwood Tourist Park in Wareham Forest at 10am.

Alex Eversden has been running ‘Together for Alzheimer’s’ for 12 years since discovering that her mum had the disease. So far, the event has raised more than £25,000 for the charity Alzheimer’s Society.

Lucy Eversden, Alex’s daughter, said: “It's a great family event which is still relatively small but everyone who comes has a great time.

“My mum is a fitness instructor and does a stretching routine before the race starts. We have cakes which are given by some of my mum’s friends so afterwards we all sit down and enjoy a bit of cake."

Alex’s mum and Lucy’s grandmother passed away a few years ago, but Alex has kept hosting the event to raise awareness of the condition and raise money for the care and research charity for people with dementia.

“It’s really satisfying to seeing my mum running this event, as it is something really close to her heart. Seeing how far the event has come and how many get involved with it now is amazing.

“So many people are touched by Alzheimer’s so it’s great to be able to have an event which brings like-minded people together for a good cause."

In 2018, there were 127 entrants. The fastest runners finished around 19 minutes and some walkers took over an hour. The course is on tracks and trails through the forest, with marshals located all along the route which provides people of all ages and fitness levels with a challenge.
