A quirky festival where visitors take part in sausage throwing is set to return this weekend.

The Dog, Sausage and Cider Festival will be held at The Springhead pub in Sutton Poyntz on Sunday, August 25.

This year marks the sixth anniversary of the event and organisers say it’s set to be bigger than ever.

Jo Parker, the pub’s landlady, said: “We’re hoping it’s going to be the biggest one yet. We’ve tried our best to cater for everyone, so we hope it’s going to be a really good day out.

“It’s primarily all about the dogs, sausage and cider, but there’s a lot of children's entertainment and bands and music for people to enjoy.”

Miss Parker added: “The sausage throwing contest is back with some great prizes. There are a few categories people can take part in. That always goes down really well.

“We’ve got our fingers crossed for the good weather.”

This year, organisers have upped the children’s entertainment, there will be a bouncy castle, bungee jump, trampoline and mini Land Rovers.

Families will also have the chance to meet Peppa Pig, Buzz and Woody and the Paw Patrol.

As well as a selection of ciders for sale, there will also be a gin and Prosecco bar.

There will also be a variety of sausages for sale from The Sausage Factory in Weymouth.

Meanwhile, there will be other types of food available, including woodfire pizza.

The event was started after a local dog trainer approached the pub with the idea of holding a dog show.

The pub then expanded on the idea by turning it into a dog, sausage and cider festival.

The event is raising money for Margaret Green Animal Rescue charity.

Miss Parker said: “The most important thing is that it raises money for Margaret Green. I’m a massive dog and animal lover and very passionate about that charity.”

There will also be a dog agility course, which dog owners and their pets can take part in.

The event will take place on Sunday, August 25 starting at 11am.
