Around 1,000 people braved a weekend of wild weather at a festival supporting a local charity.

Micro festival Duckfest, now in its third year, was held across two days for the first time.

It supports the Ducks & Drakes Cancer Trust, which raises awareness of cancer and specifically bowel cancer in young people in Dorset.

Despite high winds at the festival venue at Hintock Farm, Charminster, near Dorchester, on the Friday night, more than 400 people enjoyed live music.

Saturday saw some 1,000 people attend, with some taking up the option to camp.

Among the acts performing were Black Water County, Shelby's Elbows, The Million Dollar Bash, The Leggomen, Tripod, Scoot and Tequila Mockingbird.

Headliners Kings of Lyon on the Saturday night 'had everyone jumping around', Sam Howorth, trustee of the Ducks & Drakes Cancer Trust committee, said.

He added: "It was a success despite the terrible conditions on the Thursday leading into Saturday morning.

"The main reason we went for a two day event this year was because so much hard work and effort went into last year's.

"One of the highlights was the small stage by the bar which was a popular spot for having a drink and watching music."

Local residents came from Charminster and some people attended from further afield because they've lived with or have been affected by bowel cancer, Sam said.

Despite some of the children's entertainment having to be cancelled and having to take a marquee down because of the weather, Sam, of Milborne St Andrew, said people rallied around and gave generously.

"I'd like to thank everyone who came to the festival, especially the bands and people selling their crafts. They gave us a percentage from their profit.

"My father-in-law Richard Drake, better known as Dicko, went up on the stage and took his top and danced on stage and we were asking people to give money - and we ended up collecting £600!"

He added that he'd like to thank the main sponsor Buckland Newton Hire, Dooby Newman, who organised the musical acts and everyone else who helped.

The money raised from the evening is still being counted, Sam said, but the dates for Duckfest 2020 have been confirmed as Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8. See ducksdrakescancertrust.org.uk for more information.
