PURBECK’S own radio station has hit the airwaves.

The community station, Purbeck Coast 101.2fm, is presented by local volunteer hosts and DJs.

It will be on air around the clock seven days a week and is the brainchild of Ben Adeney, chief executive of The Swanage Pier Trust, made possible through a National Lottery grant.

New state-of-the-art studios are in Marine Villas, at the start of Swanage Pier.

Ben said: "This is an exciting time. After four years of development and fundraising, the trust is delighted to deliver this project for the community.

"We cannot express our gratitude enough to local residents, businesses, partners, National Lottery players and funders who have made this project possible.”

Meanwhile, radio station manager Michelle Langthorne said: "We are looking forward to providing the service for the community and getting more local organisations and residents involved."
