David Lee is seeking planning consent to turn a corner of his land into parking spaces.

NEW SCIENCE LABS: Five new science laboratories costing £750,000 should be ready for use at Beaminster School by September next year.

Dorset County Council has submitted a planning application for the scheme, aimed at satisfying National Curriculum requirements.

RECORD COLLECTIONS: Record street collections during Bridport’s spectacular carnival parade and torchlight procession coined in nearly £4,600 - a £300 increase on last year.

NEW CADET FORCE: Bridport now has its own Army Cadet Force, under the command of S. M. L. V. Thomas, a former wartime commando member of the T.A. and Dorsets.

The 12-strong force has now been formed for three months and has just returned from its first summer camp.

CAR PARK SUCCESS: Bridport’s first shoppers’ car park in South Street is proving a great success.

From May 13, when it came into operation, until July 5, the total number of cars which parked for free for the first hour was 7,945.

SPEED LIMIT AT SKILLING: A statement by the county surveyor, Mr. R. Saunders, that there is no case for a speed limit along the length of highway at the top of Skilling Hill Road was viewed with concern when it was mentioned at last week’s meeting of Bridport Town Council.

The borough engineer wanted to re-site the speed limit sign in Skilling Hill Road to the west and in the area of Providence Cottage.
