POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man suffered a fractured skull in an alleged attack outside a nightclub.

The assault is reported to have taken place outside the Rumshack nightclub on Maiden Street in the early hours of Wednesday, September 4.

Police were called to the scene at about 5am.

A man in his 30s was reportedly punched in the head, and he was treated by the ambulance service. He suffered a fractured skull, although it is not believed to be life-threatening.

A 28-year-old man from Portland has been arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. He is assisting detectives with their investigation.

Detective Sergeant Simon Austin of Weymouth CID, said: "We are continuing to investigate this incident and I am appealing to any witnesses or anyone with information to contact us.

"I am particularly keen to speak to a man wearing a white top who was seen in the vicinity around the time of the incident."

This incident follows another two assaults over the weekend - one on New Bond Street and one on The Esplanade.
