Dust off your hats or create your own imaginative head wear as one of the town’s wackiest events is back this weekend.

Bridport Hat Festival returns this Saturday with all the favourite activities, competitions and the ever-popular mass hatted photo.

The renowned event attracts hundreds of people to the town, sporting the most creative, wild and wacky hats.

To kick off proceedings, The Fat Marrow Band will be playing at The Ropemakers pub tomorrow evening at 9.15pm before the main event on Saturday.

The town crier and mayor, Cllr Barry Irvine, will officially start the festival at 10am on Bucky Doo Square with a welcome, followed by live music until 1pm.

On the Millennium Green, there will music from local folk bands from 10am to 2pm and visitors will be able to try their hand at the hat-hurling challenge until 12.30pm.

The best hatted dog competition will be judged from 11am to 12noon, while a vintage tea party of tea cake and soft drinks, or prosecco for the adults, will be available from 11am to 5pm.

The most elegant ensemble competition will be judged at 4pm before music from jazz band trio, Gramm Bennett, Shelby’s Elbows and Vinyl Monkeys in the evening.

Dynamic Dance will give a modern jive demonstration from 11.30am in the Borough Gardens, Bridport Arts Centre will be full of hat and millinery stands and there will be talks and live music throughout the town.

The popular mass hatted photo will be taken between 1pm and 1.30pm in South Street, followed by the judging and prize giving of the best hatted competitions.
