A DEMENTIA care service welcomed an MP to help it highlight the services available to older people in the community.

South Dorset MP Richard Drax paid a visit to Tricuro's Southill Plus day service, which offers care and support for residents with dementia across Weymouth and Portland.

Mr Drax spoke to staff about the type of activities on offer and the benefits of attending the service, as well as learning more about other services that Tricuro provides across Dorset.

A spokesman said Mr Drax was "impressed by the service" and "was encouraged to see the services that are available to the local community."

"He took the opportunity to thank the staff for their hard work and commitment, recognising the significant role the service plays in supporting families and individuals," they added.

The service is funded through Dorset Council and also offers the opportunity for privately funded people to attend and benefit from the company of others, the option of a meal and to take part in a range of activities.

Alison Waller, managing director, spoke with Mr Drax about the challenges in delivering social care within the financial resources of its shareholders - Dorset Council and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council.

They also discussed how Tricuro and services work in partnership with local voluntary and community services to share resources and enhance the services that are available to people across the county.
