Portland Town Council has welcomed proposals to create a home in part of the Royal Breakwater Hotel in Castletown.
Internal and external alterations are being requested to the listed building and to extend beneath the existing canopy to the side of the property.
The application to Dorset Council says the design will be sympathetic to the existing building. The proposed extension is to be completed with a timber cladding finish to blend into the property.
The town council says it welcomes the planning application but also asks that council officers deciding the application consider the comments of the conservation officer who says: “I am satisfied that the impact on the heritage asset is minimal with external change limited to the side elevation and Coach House access yard. However the details are equally minimal and not considered satisfactory to explain the impact fully.”
