Weymouth harbour will see some unusual activity as a training exercise for an oil spill begins today.

A team from Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) will be carrying out this training exercise from today until Thursday.

The exercise will take place in the the area of the harbour and south west corner of the bay close to the peninsula wall.

The harbour will not be restricted, but anybody using the harbour area during this exercise will be asked to be careful.

Booms and other equipment will be used in the exercise and signs will be in place to reassure the public that the strange activity is just a training exercise.

Cllr Ray Bryan, Portfolio Holder for Environment, Highways and Travel, said: "I would like to reassure people that this is just an exercise. It is important that these training exercises are carried out. We hope any inconvenience will be minimal."
