CALLS have been made for town councillors to adopt a dress code.
At a Weymouth Town Council meeting, Cllr Ann Weaving said: "I have spoken to several councillors and they're of the same opinion as me that it would be nice if there was a dress code for the gentlemen – not shorts or open neck shirts."
Mayor of Weymouth Town Council, Cllr Graham Winter said: "I take your point but I didn't put a tie on today, so there you go."
Cllr Jan Bergman was in support of Cllr Weaving.
He said: "I will support that, from the feedback I get from residents, they do like councillors to look smart."
Jane Biscombe, town clerk, said: "Just as members are aware, this was discussed at the last full council meeting and members did note that there was no agreed dress code at this time at the town council."
She said it was up to councillors to formulate any policy matters they feel is beneficial to the council.
The dress code policy will not be pursued.
