Dorset Council’s northern area planning committee will meet this Tuesday to consider a new application for  25 homes at Huntley Down, Milborne St Andrew, from Lewis Wyatt (Construction) Ltd.

Councillors are being recommended to agree the proposals and to delegate authority to a senior planning officer to negotiate the details of the development.

A report to the committee says that the new homes would “provide substantial economic, social, and environmental benefits…and would not conflict with policy or undermine the Milborne St Andrew Neighbourhood Plan.”

Several of the letters of objections say that they believe that to allow the scheme would be contrary to the principles of the neighbourhood plan and are also concerned about extra traffic and other issues.

The company wants to build eleven ‘affordable’ homes as part of the application, one more than the council’s minimum requirement.

Most of the homes on the site are two and three-bed with four 4-bed homes and two one-bed flats. The application says there will be space for 69 cars.

The one-hectare site is on the north western edge of the village and is bordered by houses on three sides – Bladen View, Coles Lane and Huntley Down itself where an access road to the site would be created.

The proposal has attracted 26 public comments – 22 of them registered as objections.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that a previous application had been allowed on appeal.

The appeal upheld a previous planning committee decision to reject a 30-home application for the site.
