Two thrill-seekers are preparing to take the plunge for a charity which provides social clubs for older people.

Lisa Holmes and Liz Cragg, who both work at Age UK Dorchester, will leap from an aeroplane in aid of the charity's Rowan Cottage centre.

Along with a group of 14 other brave people, Lisa and Liz plan to do a tandem skydive on Sunday (15) to raise funds for the charity which they have worked at for several years.

Rowan Cottage has been around in Dorchester for many years and through a range of services has assisted hundreds of older people throughout the county.

Liz said: "Older people have many challenges and struggles in their lives and we hope that we can help them overcome these.

"Our services range from providing information and advice including help with benefits, home support, befriending, foot care, better balance classes and we also have a social club in Dorchester and Weymouth.”

Lisa added: "We have seen what a difference our services make to the lives of older people in our community.

"We want to ensure that we are able to continue offering these services well into the future.Doing a skydive is a personal challenge for both of us, especially Liz who has a fear of heights."

The duo have so far raised over £540 on their JustGiving page, as well as £265 through paper sponsorship forms.

A message on the site written by Lisa and Liz says: "One thing is for sure - if we are lucky we will all grow old.

"The tricky bit is facing the challenges later life brings such as coping with bereavement and health issues without feeling lonely or isolated and maintaining great physical and mental wellbeing. We are raising money for Age UK Dorchester because we want this charity to be able to continue to provide these much needed services for older people well into the future."

Age UK Dorchester provides a social club four days a week at Rowan Cottage from 9.30am to 3pm, including a home-cooked lunch. Other activities include indoor bowling, art, quizzes, board games and reminiscence activities.
