A PERSON died after they were struck by a train on the Weymouth to Waterloo line on Friday evening.

The incident was reported to British Transport Police at around 8pm.

Officers from British Transport Police attended along with Dorset Police.

Four police cars, a private ambulance, Land Sheriff response car and Network Rail response car were on the scene at Pokesdown railway station on Friday.

British Transport Police said the incident is being treated as non-suspicious.

A spokesperson said: “Medics from the ambulance service also attended but the person was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Officers are working to establish the identity of the person and inform their next of kin.

A file is being prepared for the coroner.

All lines between Poole and Southampton Central were blocked following the incident.

The line was handed back at 9.34pm.
