A motorcyclist in his 70s has suffered serious injuries in a crash.

Officers investigating the collision near Wareham are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The incident happened at approximately 10.25am yesterday on Bere Road near to the entrance to the Sika trail.  

The collision involved a black Volkswagen Golf, driven by a woman in her seventies from the Dorchester area, and a black Velocette motorcycle, ridden by a man also in his seventies from the Wareham area.  

The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken by the ambulance service to Southampton hospital where he is in a stable condition. His next of kin have been informed.  

Police Sergeant Lee Savage, of the traffic unit, said: “I would like to thank motorists and residents for their patience while the road closures were in place.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or the manner of driving of either vehicle prior to the collision to contact police.

“Also, I would urge any motorists who captured anything of relevance on dashcam to come forward.”
