A man has been arrested after police said the driver of a vehicle fled the scene of a crash which injured two children near Dorchester.

The crash involved a silver Mercedes and a white Citroen Berlingo and happened on the Old Sherborne Road at Westleaze, close to Charminster, at about midday on Sunday.

Two seven-year-old children travelling in the Mercedes were injured with one taken to Dorset County Hospital for treatment. None of the injuries were believed to be serious.

Police said the driver of the Berlingo failed to stop at the scene and a search of the area was carried out by officers.

A 28-year-old man from Somerset was later arrested on suspicion of driving offences including disqualified driving. Police said the man was assisting with their enquiries.
