The coastguard was called after a member of the public reported a kayaker in difficulty.

The Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team responded to a call about a kayaker in possible difficulty south of Blacknor Point at about 8.46pm on Saturday, September 14.

Due to the fading light, small search teams was dispatched in various locations along West Cliff to Chesil Cove to locate the kayaker.

After a short period of time a small light was spotted approximately 300m from shore near to Blacknor Fort.

As the light got closer to Chesil Cove it became clearer that it was the kayaker that had been reported. A few of the team made their way to the cove to speak to the kayaker who confirmed he had been fishing and was ok. With no assistance required the team stood down.

A spokesperson for the crew did thank Quiddles Cafe in Chesil Cove as its staff supplied the team with a nice cup of tea before they headed back to the station.
