The Rotary Club of Weymouth is raising funds for the survivors of Hurricane Dorian.

Donations will go towards providing emergency shelter and tools for families. The proceeds of the collection will be used to purchase provisions like Shelterboxes and Water Survival Boxes to directly benefit survivors.

Head of the International Committee at the Weymouth Rotary Club Richard Burgess said: “When natural disasters happen across the globe Rotary steps up. We of course support many local good causes through various activities but when you see the devastation in the Bahamas we know everyone wants to donate and do their bit. Rotary enables that coordination in collaboration with the Dorset Echo, Wessex FM and the great people of Weymouth and the surrounding areas. We look forward to using your donations usefully.”

Mr Burgess said that right now, around 85 million people around the world have been made homeless by natural disaster and conflict, and Rotary was working to change this.

He added: “By providing emergency shelter and tools for families robbed of their homes by

disaster, we’re transforming despair into hope. We want to see a world where no family is left without shelter and clean water after disaster.”
