JD Sports have opened its doors to their brand new store at Castlepoint Shopping Centre in Bournemouth.

The sportswear retailer, which reopened last Friday, has now doubled in size since it closed at the end of May to be refurbished.

During their grand opening they had a number of entertaining acts such as an in-store DJ, live dance acts and fun competitions.

Love Island’s Lucy Donlan also made an appearance and took part in a meet and greet with her fans.

The shop has now signed a ten-year lease at Castlepoint. Other stores including River Island and Waterstones have also renewed their leases with the shopping centre.

Despite the current high street crisis, JD has reported a 10 per cent increase in like-for-like sales and profit in the UK in its half-year report.

Executive Chairman Peter Cowgill stated in the report: “ Against a backdrop of widely reported retail challenges in the UK, it is extremely encouraging that JD has delivered like for like sales growth of more than 10 per cent with an improved conversion reflecting consumers’ increasingly positive reaction to our elevated multichannel proposition where a unique and constantly evolving sports and fashion premium brand offer is presented in a vibrant retail theatre with innovative digital technology.”

Their half-year revenues also jumped 47 per cent to £2.7 million and they have had an increase of new stores across the world, with 23 opening in Europe in the period.

Cowgill said: “We are pleased by the continued positive trends to date in the second half in Sports Fashion whilst recognising the tougher comparatives ahead.”

The company are currently considering the impacts of Brexit but remain “encouraged by our prospects for further growth.”
