RELYING on social media by Weymouth Town Council to get its message out is failing many local people, according to one councillor.
Cllr Ken Whatley says many, especially older people, simply don’t use the internet.
“There is life outside of Facebook. People tell me they don’t know what is happening,” he told the services committee on Tuesday evening.
Town clerk Jane Biscombe told him that using social media meant the town council could reach over 20,000 people at no cost, although did also sometimes use posters, flyers and leaflets.
“We are always looking for cost effective ways to promote all events in Weymouth throughout the year and the events team are grateful for ideas,” she said.
