A BUILDING which was home to a former gentlemen’s outfitters is set to be converted in a new plan.
Plans have been submitted to convert the building at 104 St Mary’s Street in Weymouth, where Meech’s Menswear traded from. The shop sadly closed its doors at the end of 2017 after its former owner David Meech announced his retirement. The plans are for a change of use to a shop and two flats.
Weymouth Town Council had no objection to the plans.
Cllr Kevin Brookes said: “It’ll probably be a slightly smaller shop with access upstairs through a separate doorway, so utilising the upstairs, which is what we’ve been going on about for years. It keeps a retail unit open and upgraded, which is something I support.”
Cllr Christine James said: “It’s Meech’s, and we’ve said for long time about some empty properties or shops, which could be changed. So yes, let’s get on with it.”
The plans will next go before Dorset Council’s planning committee.
