Work is underway to install brand new LED lights along the Weymouth seafront.

Dorset Council says work has begun on the first of the 28 LED lights that will illuminate the town's seafront during the evening and night-time hours.

The £265,000 project will see these lights attached to lampposts along the promenade from the Pier Bandstand to the Pavilion.

Speaking at the beginning of the week, a spokesman for Dorset Council said: "Brightening up a grey Monday, our engineers have been busy today installing the first of the 28 new LED lights along Weymouth seafront."

The council has said that, weather permitting, the work is scheduled to continue as currently planned.

The Echo has previously reported that the work is expected to conclude on or around Monday, November 25.

After completion, the lights are due to be under the authority of Weymouth Town Council.

The new LED lights will be computer controlled, and can be programmed to different settings.
