A KEYBOARD which was used by legendary musician and singer Phil Collins will be up for grabs at a musical fundraiser.

This Friday, The Boyz Are Back will be held at The Centenary Club in Weymouth.

The event sees bands from the 60s and 70s perform some of their hits to raise money for charity.

There will be a raffle with some exciting prizes on offer in aid of M.V Freedom and The Veterans Hub.

Among the prizes is a keyboard once owned by Phil Collins.

One of the event’s organisers, Phil McDonnell, who works with Phil Collins, managed to persuade the star to donate one of his prized instruments.

He said: “I own a cargo company and work in the entertainment touring business, so I thought I’d knock on some of my client’s doors.

“I work with Phil Collins, he’s just started his American tour, so I kindly persuaded him to donate one of his keyboards for this special occasion.

“I told him we are organising a night of nostalgia with the old bands from the 60s and the 70s. He thought it was a great idea, so he gave me one of his keyboards.

“He has owned it for a long while and has used it for writing songs and recording. He said he’s going to write a letter to go with it.

“Phil’s a lovely guy, he’s a bit of a sweetheart. When I showed him the charities that we’re raising money for, like M.V Freedom, which takes disabled children on boat trips, and The Veterans Hub, which helps ex-servicemen, there was no hesitation.

“If the keyboard makes someone happy then it has done its job. I hope they can raise a good deal of money on the night.”

Mr McDonnell who lives in London said he will try and get down to Weymouth on the night.

Performing on the night will be Abacus, 11th Hour, Package Deal Band and Crystal Ship.

The event will take place on Friday at 6.30pm, but all the tickets have now been sold.

However, raffle tickets are still for sale at The Centenary Club and The Veterans Hub.

These are available to people not going to the gig.
