A TEAM of thrill-seekers took fundraising to new heights as they launched themselves out of a plane for a local charity.

Fundraisers from Dorset and beyond took part in the charity skydive to raise thousands for Age UK Dorchester.

Fourteen brave people aged from 29 to 50 years old jumped out of the plane in tandem on Sunday, sailing through the air thousands of feet above Salisbury.

Lisa Holmes was one of those who took the plunge. She said: "It was the most incredible experience. I was both nervous and excited when I boarded the small plane.

"There was no real time to think before I jumped. Suddenly I was hurtling towards the ground. I was in free fall for a whole minute at 125mph before the parachute opened. I had a safe and smooth landing four minutes later.

"The fact that we have raised so much for such an important cause makes it even more worthwhile."

The team raised more than £3,800 for the charity which provides social clubs for older people.

Liz Cragg also nervously took part. She said: "I did it not only to raise money, but to challenge myself as I am scared of heights.

"After the initial fear and realisation I had jumped out of a plane – I have to say it was exhilarating. The views along the coast to the Solent were fabulous. It was a real adrenaline rush. I was buzzing!"

Many of the group have already signed up to do the jump all over again on July 4 next year.
