POPULAR TV presenter Fred Dinenage will be guest of honour at a charity event in memory of the late Ian Goode, the man affectionately known as ‘Mr Bournemouth’.

The former manager of the Pier Theatre who was a well-known figure within the tourism industry, was diagnosed with advance prostate cancer nearly four years ago but lost his battle in October last year at the age of 66.

Now his daughter, Carly Jervis-Goode, is creating “a one-night only entertainment event” to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK and Poole hospital

The event on Saturday, October 19, will be held at the Carrington House Hotel in Bournemouth and hosted by Meridian’s Jason Dean with music by Soultown Collective and entertainment from Jeff Stevenson. Fred Dinenage will be meeting and greeting guests.

Carly said: “This night has been created for, and because of one man, Ian Goode.

“Ian built a fantastic career in entertainment and hospitality, but he never forgot to help others along the way at every opportunity. Not only did this include the tens of people whose careers he helped build, but also the many charities he selflessly raised thousands of pounds for including Alzheimer’s and cancer research.

“This was all from a person who was raised from humble beginnings, having to share the spotlight between six other siblings but always managing to be the main event in all that he did.”

Ian who started as a blue coat at Ladbrokes Caister Holiday Camp, was also manager of the Manchester Hotel for 15 years in the 80s and 90s which welcomed a number of entertainers through its doors including Claire Sweeney, Jim Davidson, Little and Large (pictured) and Cannon and Ball.

Ian was married to Irene for 40 years and together they had one daughter Carly and son Ross. He also had six grandchildren Jessica, Mia, Louie, Darcie, Isla and Eva.

Carly said she is hoping to raise around £6,000: “We hope to raise as much money for people like dad and families like ours, to help and contribute in the tough times ahead.

“As we raise more money, we hope to ease the tough times with all the equipment and aid we can contribute to in the future.”

* There is just one table of ten left for £500 which includes a three course meal with wine. The family are also appealing for prize donations for the raffle and the grand auction. Please contact Carly Jervis-Goode on 07429 523313.
