Expert Colin Divall continues his exploration of Dorset’s fascinating railway history in a series of talks at Dorset History Centre, bringing to life hidden aspects of our county’s past.

The next subject is Canford Manor’s ‘splendid archway under the South Western Railway’.

Bridge 77 popularly known as ‘Lady Wimborne’s Bridge’ on the Canford Manor estate is a remarkable structure, a survivor of mid-19th century railway building in southern England. The talk will draw upon many sources including some at Dorset History Centre to explain the history and symbolism of this ostentatious landmark.

The talk is on Thursday, October 10, 6.30pm for 7pm at Dorset History Centre, Bridport Road, Dorchester.
