A PERSONAL trainer who was injured in a motorcycle accident is taking on a new challenge.

Brett Walmsley said he is determined to overcome difficulties, and show that he can get back to full fitness.

Mr Walmsley, 29, from Weymouth, was involved in a crash on Westwey Road back in July.

The crash left him with a fractured kneecap, lacerations to his face and a broken nose.

Mr Walmsley said: “I went to my boxing class on a Friday and it was raining really badly.

“I pulled up to the traffic lights as usual then I hit a massive puddle that forms on that road.

“People don’t know it forms unless it’s raining really badly. I didn’t realise how deep it was.

“I was travelling at a normal speed – 30mph - but I aquaplaned and lost control of my bike.”

He then went into the opposite carriageway, and collided with a parked car.

Months after the accident, Mr Walmsley, has decided to take on a new challenge – the Osprey Sprint Triathlon.

He said: “After the accident I took a break off work and have been doing some rehabilitation exercises.

“I’m now back to my fitness with a slight problem still to my knee, but I’m going to give the triathlon a go.

“I want to prove to myself and to show others that if you have gone through something similar, you can do it, you can get back to full fitness, it can be done.

“We can overcome any situation, whatever life throws at us.

“The hospital told me I was seriously lucky because people go through smaller accidents and come out a lot worse.”

Mr Walmsley is a personal trainer at 3d Health and Fitness based at Wey Valley School.

He will compete in the Osprey Spring Triathlon tomorrow.

The triathlon consists of a 300m pool swim, the equivalent of 12 lengths of the pool at Osprey Leisure Centre.

There will then be a 17k bike ride around Portland, before a 5k off-road run.

The event is being organised by BustinSkin Events.
