Police Sergeant Mark Scammell, of the traffic unit, said: “An investigation is underway and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to please contact me.

“I would also like to hear from any motorists who were in the area at the time and may have dashcam footage to assist my investigation.

“Finally, I would like to thank motorists for their patience and understanding during the road closures while we dealt with the incident.”
