A man needed hospital treatment after two men pushed him to the floor and slammed his head into the ground.
Police said the victim - a Weymouth man aged in his 20s - was in North Square in Chickerell at 6.45pm last Thursday when he was approached from behind by two men who hit him in the back of the head, causing him to fall to the floor.
The men then slammed the victim's head into the ground, leaving him with injuries to his head that required hospital treatment.
The suspects were described as wearing black clothing.
Investigations Officer Adam Carter, of Weymouth CID, said: "I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw or heard anything suspicious to please get in touch."
