A couple is celebrating 50 years of marriage this month after tying the knot in South Africa.

Robin and Eva Boston, of Bridport, got married on October 4, 1969.

Having been brought up in two different continents - Robin in Cheshire, England, and Eva in Kuruman, South Africa - they met at a choir in Pietermaritzburg, Natal, when Robin had travelled to South Africa for work in a tanning company.

The story goes that he caught Eva’s attention by turning up one week with a broken leg having jumped out of a plane. After discovering that they both came from families who love terrier dogs, their relationship began.

Robin introduced Eva to his family in England and they were married in Hilton, South Africa, where Eva’s parents lived.

They have three children, six grandchildren and five dogs but they still share their love of singing every week with the New Elizabethan Singers in Bridport - they have sung in nine different choirs during their 50 years of marriage.

Their highlights have been the birth of their children and grandchildren, but Robin said: “There are too many.”

The couple are proud to have reached 50 years and Eva said: “The key to a successful marriage is always talking.”

Their biggest celebration this year will be at Christmas when they will be reunited with all three of their children for the first time in two years - Pete, who is returning from Australia, Jonny and Lizzy.
