A dedicated west Dorset grandmother has raised more than £1,500 in memory of her daughter.
Heather Rogers, 77, of Burton Bradstock cycled 45 miles on her static bike on August 28 to mark 20 years to the day when she and her husband’s, the Rev’d Ryder Rogers, daughter Rachel died aged 28.
Under a gazebo in the front garden, Heather cycled from 9am to 5pm, encouraged by her grandsons Aaron and Jacob, who blew up balloons and served refreshments, together with her daughter Dawn and neighbour Liz, to friends and neighbours who came to support her.
With sponsorship, Heather raised at least £1,250, which will go towards helping to free a family working in a brick kiln in Pakistan by the Barnabas Fund, a charity which sends financial support to projects which help Christians where they face discrimination and persecution.
Heather said: “We pray for the work of Barnabas each day and I wanted to support this particular project because our daughter Rachel, who died 20 years ago, was always passionate about justice, and so am I.
“We definitely raised more than £1,500, which will free at least one family.”
Heather undertook a similar fundraising event 10 years ago, cycling 50 miles to pay for a deep bore well for villagers in India.
