Food banks in the area have been given a boost by a fundraising group.

Members of the Bridport Lions Club have donated £150 to three food banks.

Cheques were sent to Cupboard Love in Bridport and the Lyme Regis Food Bank. Beaminster Food Bank requested meat and fresh vegetable vouchers so members Clive Greenaway and Sheila Burton purchased vouchers from butcher Nick Tett and Fruit and 2 Veg of Beaminster.

Welfare Chairman Sheila Burton said: “Although we usually respond to requests for assistance, it is important to be proactive to meet the needs of the community where we see them.

“As the summer draws to a close, seasonal workers may find themselves in need of a food bank.”

Bridport Lions Club meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Haddon House Hotel in West Bay.

The group is responsible for organising the annual Swimarathon at Bridport Leisure Centre, the Santa sleigh outside Morrisons and an Easter egg raffle, as well as fundraising for a range of local charities and good causes.
