A CHARITY golf day organised by Dorchester Lions has raised more than £1,000 for Mosaic, a charity which offers support for bereaved children across the county.

More than 90 players took part in the charitable event at Came Down Golf Club near Dorchester, the birthplace of the Ryder Cup. Teams of four from across Dorset competed for the prestigious trophy. Surprisingly good weather combined with a course in great condition and generous male and female handicaps ensured good scoring by all teams. Neil's Lions came out top with a remarkable total of 96 points, with Crane Valley placing second on 94.

Additional on-course challenges ramped up the competitive spirit, including the Nearest the Lion drive, strategically located on the 18th fairway. The famous Yellow Ball competition also returned, where each team member took it in turns to use the designated ball on successive holes. It was the team from Rolls Landscaping who ultimately scooped first prize, boasting a total of 42 points.

Competitors were fuelled by refreshments before, during and after the action.

Dorchester Lions were proud to announce that the competition raised more than £1,500 for charity. The Lions' president Ian 'Bill' Billingham presented a cheque of £1,000 to Mike Bartlett, a trustee from the event's main beneficiary, Mosaic.

Mosaic is a Dorset-wide charity offering support to bereaved children and families, as well as those facing the death of a loved one. Young people are visited by specially trained staff in their schools or homes, and have the opportunity to attend residential weekends, where they can meet other children who have experienced loss.

Mosaic also offers advice to parents and carers on how to support a child during such a difficult time.

Dorchester Lions would like to thank all players who took part on the day, as well as the local businesses and companies whose generous sponsorship helped to offset costs of staging the event. The Lions are also grateful to the staff and members of Came Down Golf Club for their support and cooperation.
