A man will appear in court after reportedly assaulting police officers and resisting a drugs search in Weymouth.

Weymouth and Portland Police were conducting foot patrols with Community Safety Officers in the Wyke Regis area yesterday.

The officers were patrolling the alleyways, play parks and surrounding areas of All Saints School and Wyke Smugglers on Portland Road following reports of drug dealing and anti-social behaviour in the Wyke Regis area.

One man was detained under section 23 of the misuse of drugs act and searched at approximately 4pm on Williams Avenue.

It is reported that the man assaulted two police officers. One of the officers sustained minor injuries to their wrist.

A 32-year-old Weymouth man was arrested in connection with the incident. He has been charged with obstructing an officer in the exercise of a drugs search and using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress and is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Friday, October 18.

The man was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting a constable in the execution of their duty but will face no further action for that offence.
