Nearly5,000 flip flops have been given to people enjoying Weymouth’s nightlife.
Every weekend Weymouth Street Pastors patrol the town’s streets trying to make a difference.
The street pastors, who are all volunteers, care for vulnerable people who have often had too much to drink.
The team works in partnership with door staff, police, paramedics and CCTV.
As part of their patrols, the street pastors talk with revellers and hand out lollies, flip flops and water.
At the start of the month, a total of 4,743 pairs of flip flops had been given by Weymouth Street Pastors during their patrols.
This means that thousands of night outs have been completed without injury or damage caused to people’s feet as a result of broken glass or other objects.
A spokesman for Weymouth Street Pastors said: “Whatever the weather, teams will be out on Friday and Saturday nights. Weymouth Street Pastors engage with those who are young, searching, vulnerable, disadvantaged, homeless, incapacitated, injured, confused, depressed - the list goes on! We love that we are able to spend time and help so many people in their time of need. His church amongst His people. See you soon.”
The group launched in Weymouth in 2008 and have been patrolling the town’s streets ever since.
