A woman reported to be walking on the railway line prompted a response from emergency services.
British Transport Police were called to Upwey station while the power to the third rail was turned off and train services were halted between Weymouth and Dorchester.
A spokesman for BTP said: “We were called at 8.34pm on Saturday following concerns for the welfare of a woman on the tracks at Upwey station. Officers attended and the woman was taken to a place of safety.”
It wasn’t until 11pm that service resumed.
A spokesman for South Western Railway said: “We’re sorry for the delay to some services on Saturday evening, this was due to the British Transport Police dealing with an incident between Weymouth and Dorchester South stations. Services resumed at 11pm shortly after power was returned to the line and the incident was resolved.”
