A MAN visiting Dorset for a weekend died after his inflatable washed up at the beach on one of the summer’s warmest days.

Tadeusz Trzpis, who was 46 and lived in Hayes, Middlesex, was dragged from the sea by a paddleboarder after his inflatable washed up at Branksome on July 6.

Emergency services rushed to the beach and the air ambulance landed.

However, Mr Trzpis could not be saved, and he died in hospital the following day.

An inquest into his death opened at the coroner’s court in Bournemouth last week.

Coroner’s officer Susan Kay said Mr Trzpis, who was born in Poland, was visiting for a weekend with his nephew and a friend. He got into trouble during the evening, and police and paramedics were called at 7.15pm.

“They visited the beach and he went into the water. The inflatable he was on washed up and his nephew was very concerned,” Ms Kay said.

“He alerted a paddleboarder, who found Mr Trzpis face down and unconscious in the water and brought him ashore.”

A post-mortem found Mr Trzpis died of extended hypoxia of the brain, or reduced oxygen supply to the brain, due to immersion in seawater.

A full inquest will take place at the coroner’s court on December 19.

At the time of the incident, a Dorset Police spokesperson said: “Officers attended to assist the ambulance service and closed the beach to enable the paramedics to deal with the incident and for an air ambulance to convey the man to hospital.”

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, it was said.

The tragedy happened while many people were still on the beach after a warm day.
