A SCATHING comment made by her mum on her deathbed inspired a Weymouth woman to turn her life around.

Amesha Ryan, 46, said the critical remark about her weight made her feel "terrible" - but later spurred her on to lose over 50lbs.

Following her mum's death in 2017, Mrs Ryan went on holiday to Spain. But instead of bringing back happy memories, Mrs Ryan said she was left shocked and horrified when she saw her holiday photos.

“It made me realise how miserable I was and reminded me of my mum telling me never to wear the top I was wearing as it made my bum look big", Amesha Ryan said.

"I know that’s a line from a comedy sketch show but it just made me feel terrible.”

Mrs Ryan - who works as a gym manager and personal trainer - said she is surrounded by mirrors while at work, which compounded her weight woes.

“There is no way I can escape my reflection," she said.

"Seeing those holiday photos made me realise I was a terrible advert for a fit and healthy lifestyle.

"I personally hated the way I looked and felt."

Determined to make a change, Mrs Ryan - who is also a grandmother to two toddlers - joined a Weight Watchers workshop in Weymouth and said she immediately felt encouraged by her coach, Debbie.

“I changed my eating habits by eating pretty much the same as before, but less of it – shrinking my portions was really important for me," Mrs Ryan said.

"I changed my mindset by realising that I was the only one who could help myself. "Finally, I changed my exercise routine by doing lots of high intensity body training which really altered my shape.”

She added: “It was so rewarding when I started to see the results. I was felt stronger in mind and body and had a sudden realisation that I was controlling my food rather than my food controlling me.

"It was as though everything came into focus and I knew I was doing this for me. I started a blog on the New Body Fitness Facebook page, honestly chronicling all the positives and negatives of my journey.

"I’m a 46 year old mum of three and now grandma to a three and a four year old.

"I’ve got a lot on my plate but if I could do this, I hoped I could inspire others to realise that they could too.”

“I got to goal having lost just over 50lbs in weight and felt fantastic.

"Sadly my dad then passed away which sent me into a bit of a downward spiral.

"However I pulled myself together as he had been so proud of me and I had promised him I wouldn’t put the weight back on.”

Debbie Scammel, Amesha’s wellness coach, said: “I am so proud of Amesha.

"She has embraced the three pillars of WW wholeheartedly – food, mindset and activity and completely turned her life around despite all the issues she has had to face.

"WW is about so much more than losing weight – it has an impact on every aspect of your life which is why I love my job so much.”
