A SONG by a 22-year-old Weymouth resident has reached number one in the Amazon download charts.

'We Paid In, You Pay Out', was written and recorded by singer-songwriter Charlene Clease and released by Jurassic Coast Records.

We Paid In You Pay Out is a leading campaign group which represents women born in the 1950s who are affected by the changes to the State Pension Age (SPA). The group disagrees with the way changes to the SPA were implemented with inadequate notification from the government, and regularly organises demonstrations and other awareness-raising activities to highlight the issue.

Paul Harmer, from Jurassic Coast Records, said: "This is a fantastic achievement for Charlene and the We Paid In You Pay Out campaign. This is also the debut single for our brand new record label, and for it to reach number one is amazing. Everyone involved should be extremely proud of themselves."

The audio and video of the single was recorded in the bedroom of Charlene's boyfriend, after his mother - who heads up the We Paid In You Pay Out campaign - asked her to write a song specifically for the cause. An instant hit, all money made from the song's release will be donated to the campaign in an effort to raise awareness and promote the issue.

Charlene studied at Weymouth College and has both played the guitar and sang since she was 16 years old, only recently beginning to take her music career more seriously. She regularly takes part in the open mic sessions held every other Friday evening at the Three Chimneys on The Esplanade. We Paid In You Paid Out is her second single, following the release of If You Fall In Love With Me earlier this year.

Jurassic Coast Records is a new record label aiming to give young musicians and creative people in Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester opportunities to get involved in an ever growing music scene.
