THE annual Nyetimber Dorset Seafood Festival has presented its nominated charity with a cheque for £8,000, bringing the total amount raised since the festival began to just over £80,000.

The money was awarded to The Fishermen's Mission at the festival's 12th anniversary celebrations. Organisers, sponsors and key participants gathered to toast the anniversary and announce the winners of 2019's Sustainability Awards.

Rose Farquhar, partnership manager for Nyetimber, commented: "We were delighted to be the title sponsor of the seafood festival in July. It was our first year and we were really impressed with the quality of the stands, the stunning seafood and the beautiful harbour. It was wonderful to see such a great amount of money raised for The Fishermen’s Mission as well, a charity which works so hard to help fishermen and their families."

The Fishermen's Mission cares for injured or unwell fishermen, offers advice with practical and financial issues and gives immediate assistance to the families of fishermen who have been killed or seriously injured.

Dean Lawrence, corporate partnerships manager for the charity, said: "Fishing continues to be the most dangerous peacetime job in the world. We are so grateful to the Nyetimber Dorset Seafood Festival for their continued support."
