THE Friends of the Rodwell Trail and Sandsfoot Gardens in Weymouth have launched an appeal to find the owner of a sketchbook found in the gardens.

The book was found outside on October 30 and was taken indoors to dry out, but has not yet been claimed. It is being kept safe in Sandsfoot Café for its owner to retrieve.

The Friends are preparing to hold their Annual General Meeting tomorrow. The group will be voting on ratifying their new constitution, reviewing the year’s achievements, and hearing from local councillors and the neighbourhood policing team.

Ecologist Bryan Edwards will be discussing his latest work and its impact on nature reserves in the area.

A recent restructure means that the Rodwell Trail is now fully managed by Dorset Council, led by senior ranger David Ackerley. The team have been familiarising themselves with the needs of the trail, paying attention to all access points and cutting back overgrown hedgerow. The footpath on the lower level has been improved and tree work continues in light of recent storms.

Planning for the installation of two new memorial benches by Whitehead Drive has also been agreed, and discussions have been held with the local neighbourhood policing team to enhance safety on the trail.

Sandsfoot Castle Gardens has thrived this year, largely thanks to the work of Tara Williams, parks and open spaces manager at Weymouth Town Council. Visited by tourists from far and wide, the gardens have also played host to several proms and wedding celebrations.

The Friends of Rodwell Trail and Sandsfoot Castle Gardens completely rely on volunteers. For more information and to get involved, visit www.sandsfootcastle.org.uk or www.rodwelltrail.org.uk.

The AGM begins at 6.30pm and takes place at Wellworthy Sports & Social Club, on Dumbarton Road, in Weymouth. All are welcome to attend.
