THE open date and time for Portland's new Lidl store have been confirmed.

The budget supermarket has announced that the store at Osprey Quay will open its doors to shoppers at 8am on Thursday, November 14.

Residents are invited to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8am, along with pupils from Atlantic Academy, and will be offered the chance to sample products during the day.

The supermarket in Hamm Beach Road, close to the sailing academy, features an in-store bakery, customer toilets and parking. Plans for the new store received a wave of support from residents when they were revealed last year.

Up to 40 new jobs have been created for the community.

Lidl GB’s regional head of property, Matthias Daly, said: "We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing this new Lidl store to Portland.

"It is great for us to be able to create more jobs and investment opportunities in the area, and we can’t wait to start serving our products to the local community."
