A PARTY of traders are heading to Nepal to help rebuild a school, following a major earthquake.
Mark and Helen Cook, directors of Poole-based MC Plan and Site Services building control company, visited the country in October last year to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary. During their journey they became involved with project work at a local school in Nuwakot, which was decimated by the an earthquake in 2015.
The trek highlighted the extent of the devastation to the area.
Moved by their plight, the couple consulted with the project organisers in Nepal, and planned a return trip with a workforce to continue the school rebuild, in November of this year.
A group of ten volunteers with varying trades and skills, including interior and exterior decorating, carpets and flooring, plastering and electrical expertise, will give up their time over a 12-day period to build a new toilet block, install electricity to both blocks of classrooms and create a soft play area after erecting a fence to protect children using the outside area from a high precipice.
Helen said: “When we look at how lucky we are with running water and flushing toilets – which everyone takes for granted – it emphasises the plight of these families with little more than a hole in the ground.”
“Alex will be providing a blog each day on our social media, so please follow and share our life-changing journey.”
