A Remembrance Sunday Service and two minute silence was observed by hundreds of onlookers at the war memorial opposite Hotel Prince Regent on Weymouth seafront.
Mayor of Weymouth Graham Winter and representatives from veteran associations, cadets and youth organisations laid wreaths to pay their respects.
Cllr Winter said prior to the event: “It is our solemn duty to remember those who were killed and injured in conflicts many years ago and those in more recent times.”
After the wreaths were laid, the parade marched along the Esplanade to the American war memorial, where a short service took place to remember those who left the shores of Weymouth and Portland for D Day, and to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the sinking of the S/S Leopoldville which was carrying 802 American soldiers.
