THE county fell silent yesterday to remember the fallen.
A two-minutes silence was held in Weymouth on Armistice Day to commemorate all those who gave their lives in both World Wars and subsequent conflicts.
In Weymouth, dignitaries gathered at the cenotaph to pay their respects.
A short service was given by Revd Dennis M Mould, Chaplain of Dorset County Royal British legion.
He said: “I welcomed people on this special day to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the World War and subsequent conflicts so that we can have our freedom.
Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Graham Winter, said: “It’s important for us to honour those who went before us."
Naomi Turner who organises the Poppy Appeal in Weymouth said: "It's amazing every year we get more people.
"We remember and honour the dead but cherish the living.
"And we are here to raise awareness of the people who were left behind and people who still need help.
"Last year we raised more than £20,000 in Weymouth and it's going up every year."
