Dorset Police are reminding people that using a mobile phone while driving a car incurs serious penalties and puts other road users in danger.
As part of their No Excuse road safety campaign, the police are warning motorists that driving while using any handheld mobile device is illegal and can incur six penalty points and a £200 fine.
Laws against using a mobile phone while driving still apply when the driver is stopped at traffic lights or in a traffic queue, as well as to a passenger supervising a learner driver.
Anyone caught using a mobile while driving who has passed their test within the last two years will lose their licence.
Dorset Police's No Excuse campaign was launched to improve road safety and combat dangerous driving. It focuses on problems such as driving under the influence, people not wearing a seatbelt and speeding.
Teams for the campaign are deployed throughout the county.
