Work has begun to dismantle and remove the Jurassic Skyline viewing tower.

The Echo reported in the summer how the attraction was to leave Weymouth after being permanently closed.

Operators blamed a decrease in visitors to the attraction, which opened in 2012.

It will be leaving the UK as Merlin Entertainments has sold the tower to another operator overseas.

A spokesman for the attraction said: "Specialist contractors will initially take down the tower structure, which has been sold and is being relocated.

"Subsequently the rest of the site will be cleared and restored to its original condition to be suitable for use as a car park.

"In agreement with Dorset Council the electrical sub-station that forms part of the site will remain in place for use in future developments.

"The peninsula will remain open throughout the works with alternative pedestrian access in place where necessary."

The spokesman said the completion date for the removal of Jurassic Skyline depends upon winter weather interrupting works, but is expected to finish before the end of February 2020.
